"Visions, so insane, they travel, unravelling through my brain..."

I was thinking today about all these wonderful songwriters that write the big songs, that provide the words we all know, that we all sing to, and how most of us would be able to name the singer/group of a particular song, but not the actual songwriter/s.

In particular, I've been thinking how amusing it is to find that Anne Preven and Scott Cutler co-wrote three songs with Demi for Demi's second cd, which I've basically been playing non-stop for the last fortnight. If you know your stuff, you'll know that Anne and Scott were a part of Ednaswap, an LA band who co-wrote Torn with a guy called Phil Thornalley, who later gave it to Natalie Imbruglia, who turned it into a massive hit (with Murder In Suburbia's Jeremy Sheffield as Nat's love interest in the vid).

It's one of my favourite songs, and recently I've discovered that a lot of well known artists have worked with the writing duo, most recently Demi, Katy Perry, Jordin Sparks and Miley Cyrus. I can't count for Miley's songs, but I know Demi's songs Solo, Quiet and Remember December are awesome, as is a little song called Wrong Way Out by Megan McCauley. God, THAT cd rocks.

There's a few different artists that have covered Ednswap's (or rather, Scott and Anne's revival band Annetenna's) song Ultraviolet, most importantly Stiff Dylan's version of it, which I adore. Then you have Joanna Pacitti's version of it, which makes me violently gag. Of course, nothing beats the original, which strangely enough, I cant find on the net. Stupid net, don't you know whats good for you?

Blown Away by Bachelor Girl was also written by Anne and Scott. That's just weird that even Aussies are included on their resume.

So basically, if you want bubblegum pop, you go to Max Martin. If you want Grammy nominated romantic ballads, you go to Diane Warren (honestly, who's ever gonna forget Aerosmith's I Don't Want To Miss A Thing?).

You want pop/rock/awesome, you go to Anne and Scott. They're my Ryan Tedder, if you will.

Here they are with Jordin Sparks and fellow songwriter Dapo Torimiro. Love them, and I will continue to be surprised (but not really) when they write more awesome songs by people I'm going to discover in the future. I can count on it.
